After 15 years as a high-fashion stylist & colorist, Angela Soto opened Baja Studio to serve easy-living, natural beauty in Soho, NYC. Known for embracing natural textures, creating sun-kissed highlights, and understanding each client’s personality and features to create an elevated, customized look, Angela has been channeling her expertise into Baja Studio since the Spring of 2019.
Growing up in Southern California, Angela was inspired by the 90’s, the era of supermodels, and found an eternal muse in Kate Moss. After moving to NY, she trained at famed Bumble & Bumble Salon before working at top salons Ion & Whittemore House. In pursuit of working backstage and in editorial, she joined the team of icon & mentor Guido Palau, whom she traveled the world with, working at the forefront of high fashion.
“Working alongside Guido and his team of insanely talented stylists made me the person and hairdresser I am today. He taught me to really look at an individual. Paying attention to the nuances of their face, and head shape, while referencing everything from fashion to art history. The bar was high, the energy was intense and the beauty that was created day in and day out on set and backstage was life-altering. Spending time in Europe & Asia at some of the world’s biggest fashion houses like Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior–– you’re with the designers themselves and you just know you’ve hit this level of artistry that is beyond. You’re a part of creating the trends that the world will move with and that is such a special gift.”
Growing up in New York City, Malcolm was heavily influenced by a multitude of cultures, art and style. He started doing hair at 14 years old on anyone who would allow him. Afro texture hair was his specialty and cultivating locs soon became what he was known for around town. At the age of 16 Malcolm started assisting other hairdressers during fashion week and assisting on editorial photoshoots. In 2009, he traveled to Paris fashion week assisting the industry’s biggest artists Guido Palau, Sam McKnight, Luigi Murenu, and Eugene Souleiman. This training along with previous textural experience has transformed him into a well rounded hairdresser. He approaches his clients from a scientific perspective mixed with an artistic eye. After almost 20 years in the game he has knowledge in many aspects of hairdressing, largely inspired by femininity in all of its forms.
